Guidelines - Accessible media from tutor wiki

Week 9 activity 4.1 wiki (Astier):

► Web pages:

http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG10/

This guideline is appropriate for disabilities and highlights the aspect of color and language in the construction of web pages, for instance.

► PowerPoint presentations:

http://www.cps.ca/english/AnnualConference/2008/PowerPointPresentationsGuidelines.pdf

This one not only gives tips about how to make slides clearer, but also emphasizes the way one should present them to an audience.

► Word documents:

http://www.catea.gatech.edu/grade/guides/wordmust.php

It is a guideline that shows how to facilitate things for screen readers rendering.

► PDF documents:

http://www.useit.com/alertbox/20010610.html

This guideline above undertakes the mission of underlining the main principle for PDF documents which is the “printing factor”. It grips the usability problems with PDF documents.

► Flash animations:

Alternative text for flash animations is the first advice from it and also provides a roll of commands regarding screen readers as JAWS to navigate in Flash.

► Web video:

Of course the advice of alternative text is also applicable here. Among others the length is another distress from this guideline, if one wants to broadcast the video properly to achieve an optimal rate of audience.
